I’m Brian Oakes, author of Undermined, technology executive, cybersecurity professional, AI builder, husband, father, and lifelong student of leadership, resilience, and human nature.
For more than two decades, I’ve built, secured, and led technology environments ranging from small businesses to enterprise organizations. I’ve spent my career solving complex technical problems, leading teams through difficult challenges, and helping organizations navigate an increasingly connected, and increasingly vulnerable, digital world. Today my work focuses on technology leadership, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, automation, and building systems that solve real business problems rather than simply adding more complexity.
But my story isn’t defined by technology alone.
Life has a way of teaching lessons that no classroom, certification, or boardroom ever could. I’ve experienced incredible successes, devastating setbacks, personal loss, professional victories, and moments that forced me to completely rethink what matters most. Those experiences ultimately led me to write Undermined, where I shared the deeply personal story of becoming the victim of one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in history, the long road that followed, and the lessons that came from rebuilding both financially and personally.

I don’t believe technology exists in a vacuum. Every innovation changes the way we work, communicate, build relationships, and live our lives. The greatest challenge isn’t keeping up with technology, it’s making sure we don’t lose ourselves while doing it.
I write for leaders trying to make better decisions. For technology professionals looking beyond the next certification. For entrepreneurs building something meaningful. For people who have been knocked down and are determined to get back up. And for anyone who believes that our greatest setbacks often become the foundation for our greatest opportunities.
If there’s one theme that runs through everything I write, it’s this: adversity doesn’t have to define you, but it can refine you. Every challenge leaves us with a choice, to become bitter or become better. I’m still making that choice every day.
